Join Calvin Payne for a rebellious journey of environmental activism and redemption in the Sheffield street tree protests.
Contumacious – The Accidental Tree-Hugger is a must-attend event with Calvin Payne! Join us at Walkley Library for an afternoon of untold stories about the Sheffield street tree protests.
“The long-running campaign by Sheffield citizens against the council tree felling policy included many untold personal journeys. From the early days of the controversial contract with Amey, to the ending of the work in March 2018, the story was national news. This book is the inside tale of one man’s individual experience and perspective. It is a personal and political odyssey through three years of struggle, confrontation, and ultimately, justification and personal redemption.”
Calvin’s story will leave you entertained, enlightened and inspired. To find out more about his book, click here: Contumacious – The Accidental Tree-Hugger – Sheffield Books | Ecclesall Directory

This is a pay-as-you feel event. All proceeds from the event will be used to raise essential funds for Walkley Carnegie Library (keeping our book collection updated for the community and paying for our heating are our biggest costs). Since council cuts in 2014, Walkley’s branch library has been run by volunteers as an independent charity, and we are also a Welcoming Place, providing a warm haven for all members of the community when they need it most.
Please note that Walkley Library is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. Please contact the library at [email protected] or phone 0114 231 2947 for more information.
